Do
you know what kind of insurance policy you need?

explain the differences!
Personal Insurance Policies
| Comprehensive
Home Coverage |
Home
insurance, or homeowners insurance, is an insurance
policy that combines various personal insurance
protections which can include losses occurring to one's
home, its contents, loss of its use (additional living
expenses), loss of other personal possessions of the
homeowner, as well as liability insurance for accidents
that may happen at the home.
The cost of homeowners
insurance often depends on what it would cost to replace
the house and which additional riders—additional items
to be insured—are attached to the policy. The
insurance policy itself is a lengthy contract, and names
what will and what will not be paid in the case of
various events. Typically, claims due to earthquakes,
floods, "Acts of God", or war (whose
definition typically includes a nuclear explosion from
any source) are excluded. Special insurance can be
purchased for these possibilities, including flood
insurance and earthquake insurance. |
| Renters
Insurance |
Renters
Insurance provides coverage for a tenant of a single
family residence or a tenant of an apartment. The policy
focuses on loss to personal property and loss to
additions. Coverage for legal liability is also
included. The policy does not include coverage for the
dwelling and other structures, because a tenant does not
have an insurable interest in the building. However, the
policy provides coverage for building additions and
alterations made by the tenant. Personal Property is
covered against direct physical loss caused by a
specified peril. In addition to the coverages provided
under Section I of the policy, additional coverages are
included for debris removal, fire department service
charges, loss assessment charges, reasonable repair
charges, and property removal charges. Payment is also
made for loss involving credit cards, forgery, and
counterfeit money. The additional coverages are included
to provide additional protection in the event of certain
peril losses. All additional coverages are subject to
certain limitations and conditions.
If you own and are
renting, see Dwelling Fire Insurance. |
| Dwelling
Fire Insurance |
Available
for non-commercial owners of rented houses, covering
property damage to the structure, and sometimes to the
owner's personal property (such as appliances and
furnishings). The owner's liability is generally
extended from their own primary home insurance, and does
not comprise part of the Dwelling Fire policy. It is a
counterpart to the HO-4 renter's policy. |
| Scheduled
Personal Property Insurance |
The scheduled
personal property endorsement is used to provide
coverage for risk of direct loss for such items as
jewelry, furs, cameras, musical instruments, silverware,
golfer's equipment, fine arts, postage stamps and rare
coins. Scheduled property can be insured for any amount
the insured requires. |

automobiles from upset or collision with another object.
A deductible applies. |
| Personal
Umbrella |
Personal
umbrella insurance provides coverage beyond your
homeowner or auto policy by adding an extra layer of
liability coverage. Coverage is provided in amounts of
$1,000,000 increments. Umbrella insurance also covers
situations that may not be covered by another policy
such as slander or libel. |
Commercial
Insurance Policies
| Commercial
General Liability |
Under this
form of insurance and regarding a covered occurrence,
the company will pay all sums the insured becomes
legally obligated to pay as damages due to:
1. Bodily Injury
(Coverage A)
2. Property Damage
(Coverage B)
The insurance company has
the right to defend any suit against the insured seeking
damages on account of such bodily injury or property
damage, even if any of the allegations of suit are
groundless, false or fraudulent, and to make such
investigation and settlement of any claim or suit as it
deems expedient. However, the company is not obligated
to pay any claim or judgment or to defend any suit after
applicable limit of the company's liability has been
exhausted by payments of judgments or settlements. |
| Commercial
Property |
Commercial
property insurance helps businesses, including farms and
ranches, pay to repair or replace buildings, associated
structures, and contents damaged by fire, storms, theft,
and other events outlined in the policy. Business owners
who either own or lease their buildings may purchase
commercial property insurance. It’s important for a
tenant business to understand that the building
owner’s insurance policy will generally only cover the
building or structure, not the contents of the building
belonging to the tenant.
*Flood insurance coverage
is not included with a standard commercial property
policy, but is available as a separate policy.
**If you are renting a commercial property, you will
need to have business personal property coverage to
protect the contents within the structure (read your
lease). |
| Builder's Risk |
Indemnifies
for loss of or damage to a building under construction.
Insurance is normally written for a specified amount on
the building and applies only in the course of
construction. Coverage customarily includes fire and
extended coverage and vandalism and malicious mischief.
Builders risk coverage can be extended to a
"special" form as well. The builders risk
policy also may include coverage for items in transit to
the construction site (up to a certain percentage of
value) and items stored at the site.

| Commercial
Auto |
Commercial
auto insurance can provide coverage for your fleet of
vehicles and drivers (for you and qualified employees)
against injury, loss or damage to vehicles or cargo,
plus damage to other property. |
| Umbrella
Liability Coverage |
This type of
liability insurance provides excess liability
protection. Your business needs this coverage for the
following three reasons:
-It provides excess
coverage over the "underlying" liability
insurance you carry.
-It provides coverage for all other liability exposures,
excepting a few specifically excluded exposures. This is
subject to a large deductible of $10,000.
-It provides automatic replacement coverage for
underlying policies that have been reduced or exhausted
by loss. |
| Workers
Compensation |
Workers
compensation insurance covers the cost of medical care
and rehabilitation for workers injured on the job. It
also compensates them for lost wages and provides death
benefits for their dependents if they are killed in
work-related accidents, including terrorist attacks.
